Tonight, I'm writing a post about part-time cloth diapering.
I am a chronic over-researcher, and I've read an absolutely unnecessary amount about cloth diapering. I've gone completely back and forth about 28 times from thinking I would never do it, to thinking "why not give it a try?" I've bought diapers for 30 day trial, tried them for a day, returned them all. Bought prefolds and covers from GMD, and decided I hated folding prefolds and they are way too bulky. I read this study on pubmed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3580949/ (Cloth diapers = your child won't walk until they are 13 ahh!!)
Anyway, I'm officially giving it a try. I decided to stop researching and just jump in with what I'm calling the "Young House Love" method. (Here's a link their posts on CDing - http://www.younghouselove.com/2010/08/the-much-requested-cloth-diaper-post/). I bought a dozen bumgenius elementals (I like that it's cotton...more forgiving in wash than microfiber), a planetwise wetbag, and a sprayer (which has yet to arrive). (10/4/15 - picked up 3 barely used elementals from a lady on cloth diaper trader for a steal)
Check out my awesome nerd diaper!
The biggest two reasons for trying:
1. Most of Lucy's diapers are just wet since part-time EC is going really well. (Also, babies don't poop nearly as much as I thought they would...For some reason I pictured myself changing poop diapers all day as a parent. Reality is different! At two and a half months, she shifted down to one or two BMs a day, and I get them in the potty mostly!).
2. I hate the diaper 'necklaces' that come out of the diaper genie. It puts our waste into perspective. Gross perspective. And despite the fact that they are mostly just pee too, they are pretty smelly in a weird-chemically way.
So, I'm trying CD. My plan is to use them during the day, use sposies at night, and in between laundry.
What I'm doing for laundry is the "Young House Love" method, with this post for troubleshooting:

All that being said, I love disposables for their quickness, easiness, DISPOSABLENESS, etc. They've been good to us; Lucy has never had diaper rash, and I can change pretty much change them in my sleep.
Thank goodness for both.
